The change of venue, announced on Saturday by the head of Cairo’s appeal court, is designed to ensure tighter security for the former president’s trial, which is expected to draw a large audience.
The police academy is located in New Cairo, a district on the capital’s eastern edges that is not as heavily populated as the area around the convention centre.
The 83-year-old Mubarak, his two sons, his security chief and six senior security officials are expected to appear in court on August 3.
The charges include corruption and ordering the killing of protesters during the uprising that toppled Mubarak in February.
