Luxembourg gives large aid package to Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso – An official from tiny Luxembourg says the country will invest a large sum in Burkina Faso to help alleviate poverty in the landlocked West African nation.

Marie Josee Jacobs, Luxembourg’s minister of cooperation and humanitarian action, says the landlocked European nation has committed 62.9 million euros ($84 million) to support development, with emphasis on the environmental sector. Some of the money will also go toward projects supervised by the United Nations.

The impoverished African nation relies on international aid. Nearly half of the nation’s some 14 million residents live on less than a dollar a day.
