The journalists, who hail from various Arab countries, all worked for the Libya Press news agency, an affiliate of the al-Ghad media company founded by the leader’s son, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi.
The reason for the journalists’ arrests was not made public in the reclusive country but speculation was mounting over an internal dispute within Libya’s upper ranks.
The younger Gaddafi is seen as having reformist leanings and has been, at times, critical of the Libyan government.
The arrests, which took place Friday, occurred a day after the government suspended the print version of the Oea daily, also run by the son’s media company.
No official reason was given for the suspension, though the decision came shortly after the newspaper published an article criticising the government’s handling of corruption.
Saif al-Islam, the second eldest son of the Libyan leader, has been involved in his country’s renewed diplomacy over the last decade, including the warming ties with the United States and Italy.
