In the past five years, 13 000 Zimbabweans have sought asylum in the UK but only a third were granted the request. Deportation awaits the rest with the UK Home Office saying it would soon resume enforced returns of Zimbabweans after a four-year moratorium.

Western media quoted UK Immigration Minister Damian Green as saying the decision reflected the “improved stability in Zimbabwe”. “Those facing return will join the hundreds who have returned voluntarily,” he said.
