The main militant group in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) has issued a statement warning the world football governing body FIFA to “rethink” a decision of allowing their country to host the U-17 world cup which is slated for October this year.
The MEND said in an emailed statement according to the Nigeria Daily Trust newspaper that all people of Niger Delta origin presently living in northern
"The rebel group said they are issuing this warning" because a major event will occur in that part of the country and reprisal attacks directed at them cannot be ruled out” and therefore said northern Nigerians living in the Niger Delta region should also move out.
