Organized by the peace commissions in the Senate and the House of Representatives, the objective of the initiative is to give voice to civil society in the dialogues between the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia -People’s Army (FARC-EP), running in Cuba since November, 2012.
The opening session was attended by Senate Speaker Roy Barreras, UN representative to Colombia, Fabrizio Hoschild; and Congress people Ivan Cepeda, Gloria Ines Ramirez, Angela Robledo and Jorge Gechem, among others.
In her speech, Senator Ramirez said this session is a starting point to give voice to those victims, the cornerstone for the peace process to advance.
She said that in this second round “we will listen to all and register their demands to deliver them to the table, confident that this will be a valuable contribution to find peace with social justice and sovereignty.
To all the victims we express that Congress reaffirms its commitment to work for peace. This recognition has no exclusions; it is for all the victims, we offer them solidarity and for all we request truth, justice, compensation and guarantees, she said.
The next table will be in session in Rionegro, in northern Antioquia department, on May 9-10, attended by participants from Risaralda, Quindio and Caldas. (PL)
