In statements to Prensa Latina, Benitez, a senator for Polo Democratico Alternativo, equalled this situation with the one in other sectors like milk, meat, coffee and other workers, victims of the practices and effects of the Free Trade Treaties.
The problem of the coffee workers is still creating trouble and uneasiness, because of the government’s fail to fulfil the agreements to end the strike started on February 28 and suspended on March 8, in which the workers paralyzed the coffee production.
“I think the demands of the coffee workers are fair. We are supporting them right from the Congress,” she said.
“With the help of coffee growers, many schools, aqueducts, communication lines and other things were built. The government cannot avoid them. We legislators are doing the best we can for them to be heard,” she said. (PL)
