Lennox Heads resident Dave Sharp is preparing to spend up to 12 weeks alone in a 60 kilometre area of bush in a bid to raise awareness of polluted oceans and other environmental concerns.
The 32-year-old will begin his trek on July 1, taking with him his guitar and surfboard, but no food or water.
American Supertramp, whose real name was Chris McCandless, attempted a similar adventure in 1992 but was found dead five months after wandering into the Alaskan wilderness on a journey of self-discovery.
The story was made famous in the Hollywood movie Into the Wild but Mr Sharp says he’s confident he’s done enough to ensure his own bush adventure will have a much happier ending.
