The TAP agency says interim President Fouad Mebazza has signed a decree that will be published this week in the government register. The decree was first enacted during street unrest after the fall of Tunisia’s long-time autocratic leader in January.
The report on Tuesday did not give reasons for the extension, but Tunisia has faced intermittent bouts of violence and unrest in recent months. Some of the protests have involved hard-line Muslims or youths angry about high unemployment.
It will be the fourth such extension since long-time President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia in January amid an uprising that triggered the Arab Spring revolutions.
