The fighting occurred Thursday in the Barkin Ladi area near the city of Jos, which has seen hundreds killed in recent years in disturbances.
Sani Mohammed, a Muslim community leader, said Thursday that they collected three dead bodies. Mark Lipdo who heads a Christian group said it counted four others.
The state government announced a 24-hour curfew in an area where authorities said at least seven others had died in another clash Monday.
This is the latest unrest in Nigeria, an oil-rich country of more than 160 million people split between a largely Muslim north and Christian south.
