“We cannot afford any compromise in this area,” EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas said. “The commission is ready to work together with the authorities of those countries which have safety problems to overcome them .. In the meantime, safety comes first.”
Aviation oversight authorities in Mozambique are currently unable to “safeguard standards,” Kallas’ spokesperson, Helen Kearns, said.
Air Madagascar’s two Boeing 767 planes, meanwhile, face “persisting deficiencies in their operation and oversight,” the commission said. The planes used to regularly fly to the French capital Paris, Kearns said.
