The Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company (TPOC), owned by TPAO – the national oil and gas company of Turkey, made the discovery on the area 147 concession, which it was awarded in 2005, NOC said in a statement.
Tests showed an oil flow rate of 685 barrels per day (bpd), it said.
TPOC holds a 9.7 percent interest in the concession, and NOC owns the remaining 90.3 percent, the statement added.
More than 50 international oil companies operate in Libya together with subsidiaries of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC).
Libya has the largest proven oil reserves in Africa with 42 billion barrels of oil and over 1.3 trillion cubic metres of gas, with a current production capacity of 2m b/d.
