Guinea has not receive a fair share of democracy during the last two decades. Lansana Conte, a former dictator ruled the mineral rich country for 24 years. After his death, Capt. Moussa Dadis Camara took charge in a bloodless coup. Camara was later accused of killing hundreds of peaceful demonstrators before he fled after he was almost killed.
Sekoub Konate has promised that he will return the country to constitutional rule.
Diallo polled 44 percent in June’s first round elections whiles Conde took 18 percent. The constitution requires a run-off since both candidates did not get the total percentage.
