Though Namibia has Africa’s fifth highest per capita income and is on target for Millennium Development Goals on poverty and literacy, it still has a distance to go on improving schools and health in rural areas, a European Commission document said.
More than one in five Namibians living in rural areas do not have access to drinkable water and more than 86% of rural households lack access to proper sanitation facilitites.
Included in the aid are €42.15m for the education sector and €18m for water and sanitation programmes.
The programme also included funds to bolster governance, notably a parliamentary support programme.
