Residents say the ancestors are dissatisfied with the traditional ceremonies conducted when the Sena rail line, which connects the Indian Ocean port city of Beira to the interior, was reactivated in 2008 after 25 years of disuse, reported state broadcaster Radio Mocambique.
Their concerns emerged after a train ran over a hippopotamus last week while doing maintenance work on the line close to the Zambezi River.
An accident on a separate rail line in southern Mozambique killed 35 head of cattle on Sunday night when a national railway locomotive en route to neighbouring Swaziland ran over the herd in a difficult-to-access area, Radio Mocambique said.
