Four jailed over Togo bus attack

Four people have been jailed by a court in Cabinda on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the ambush and armed attack of the Togo national team bus en route to the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in January 2010.
Belchior Lanso, a university professor was given six years; Francisco Luemba, a lawyer and Raul Tati, a Catholic priest, got five years each; while José Benjamin Fuca, an ex-policeman was given three years. Each was charged with endangering state security: none of the four directly took part in the attack but were accused of colluding with those who did, albeit via implication and not by evidence.
According to local sources, the four persons sentenced are human rights activists in Cabinda – an exclave and province of Angola whose status is under armed dispute. The main rebels operating in the region are the FLEC-FAC army, a volunteer force of armed fighters.
