Senegal beef up sea transport

Senegalese President Abdoulie Wade has announced plans to beef-up maritime transportation services as well as rehabilitation of seaports. He urged the Maritime Economy Minister to “accelerate the delivery of two additional vessels for the transport of passengers and goods.”

Wade disclosed at the inauguration of a newly built International Cruise Terminal at the port of Dakar, that plans are far advanced to secure two new boats for shipping services between mainland Senegal and the Southern province of Casamance.

The new terminal cost 1.6 billion CFA francs including structure erection and equipment.

Wade called for the speedy rehabilitation of secondary ports in the towns of Kaolack, Saint-Louis and Ziguinchor.

"We have brought together the resources for these three projects," he assured.
