Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra has been named in a 23-man Mali squad for their 2010 World Cup qualifier at home to Sudan on Oct. 11 after recovering from a long-term knee injury.

The 28-year-old made his first appearance in nearly a year last week, coming on as a substitute in Real’s 2-0 La Liga victory over Villarreal.

Neither side can qualify for the World Cup in South Africa but a win for Mali would earn them a place at next year’s African Nations Cup finals in Angola.
