The pressure was on the gaffer due to onlookers tipping his opponents as the easiest of Group C’s teams to start with.
The first good surprise for the African vice champions was the presence of their captain and goalkeeper François Beyokol. Marseille’s Charley Fomen, although known, was not supposed to be there but made it to Suez in time thanks to Marseille coach Didier Deschamps.
And since the last ACN in Rwanda, three new players made it on the Stating XI: Akono Effa, Adolphe Teikeu and Olivier Boumal.

Even though the game started a little too fast for the Lions, the youngsters taking ten minutes or so to get their heads in the game. During that time, the Korean team deftly assaulted their opponents, but thanks to a very efficient and lucky back four, only the post was rattled.

After 19 minutes had passed, the Cameroonians were finally able to breathe when right back Akono Effa saw his own twisted shot not properly blocked by goalkeeper Lee Bum-Young.
From then on, it was smooth sailing for the Lions, Germain Tiko even scoring his first goal as an Cameroonian international at the 64th minute.

If Korea seemed an easy opponent, Cameroon will definitely have to start their next match better if they want to go far in this competition, they won’t be able to rely on talent alone when they play against Germany or the US.

But for now, with such a short preparation time, the Lions will be happy to get three points.
