According to African religions in our head lives one or more ori, that is oriszá (deity), who control our acts, they have their own character, and they represent their own food, trees, animal, colour and different forms or shapes. According to Pierre Verger’s explanation who is a photo artist and an ethnographer, the representatives of the Sango group, where the deities could be found are bold, truthful, and they punish the liars, robbers and malefactors. They are also vigorous, and are full with the strenght of charm.
The representatives of the Ogum group are more aggressive, they fight dragons and wars since „oriszá” is the representative of fight and war. Along the „umbanda”-rituals the symbol of the Ogun is the Catholic Church of Saint Gregory. According to some researchers the umbanda as a ceremony was formed for the need of survival for cultural and religious habits. The Negro slaves mixed their own traditions with their white possessors catholicism on their slave accomodation.
This mixing defines the character of the Brazilians, who see the hope and the better life in this creed. The individuals belonging to different social strata, let them be rich or even starving homeless, they are hoping for a witch’s councils offering consolation.
