The motion received a majority support, but not unanimous (204-1).
“I do no know if there was an error in the vote, because it should be 100 percent, lamented the president of soccer’s world governing body, Joseph Blatter.
The South African Tokyo Sexwale, who was for years in the Robben Island prison with Nelson Mandela in his strguggle against appartheid, preferred to think on the hypothesis of error.
“All together should say No to racism, a problem in the wolrd,” stressed Sexwale.
The resolution was written by a working group led by the president of the Confederation North, Central American and Caribbean (Concacaf), Jeffrey Webb, evisages the removal of points and a suspention of a competition in severe cases.
According to the text, the first act of racism or discrimination should be penalized with a warning, fine and / or dispute of a match behind closed doors.
To reoffenders or severe incidents, should be applied the reduction of points or the expulsion from the competition, adds the resolution.
Just two weeks ago, the president of FIFA described as too benign the sanction of 50,000 euros (65,000 dollars) imposed on the Roma for some racist incidents in the Italian soccer.
“I’m not satisfied and I will go directly to the Italian Federation, that is not the way to address these issues,” said Blatter about the fine.
