Judge Sentences Paraguayan Peasants on Hunger Strike to House Arrest

Asuncion – A Paraguayan judge sentenced to house arrest to four farmworkers in jail that have been under hunger strike for 58 day but only after meeting with their attorneys they will decided whether to continue striking or not.

 

Prensa Latina could confirm the previous fact by a phone call to Itagua National Hospital, located nearly 30 kilometers from the capital, where the peasants are hospitalized due to their delicate condition.

The strikers, imprisoned five months ago after the bloody eviction that took place in Curuguaty, which caused the death of 11 peasants and four policemen, await the arrival of attorneys that bring the judicial resolution from the city.

The prisoners continue demandind their fnal release as well as that of eight peasants who are still imprisoned in the jail of General Oviedo city.  (Prensa Latina)
