The Minister for Women, Ana Jara, who remains in the Cabeza de Negro mine in the southern region of Ica, overseeing the bailout, said the rescue already entered its final stage and could end tonight.
Experts in building tunnels who works to rescue the miners are now less than three meters of its target, although the final stage is the most delicate and requires more logistical conditions, said Jara.
Sources also indicated that the trapped workers abandoned their actions to remove debris to expedite the rescue, having been warned that the movement of material can cause a new collapse.
Informal miners, who worked without any protection and are trapped since last Thursday, receive oxygen, food and medicine through a narrow tube through which they communicate with the outside. (Prensa Latina)
