The soldier suffered fractures and concussion during an unspecified incident last week but the injuries were not life-threatening, Chief of Joint Operations Lieutenant General Ash Power said.
‘The wounded soldier was evacuated and received medical care,’ he said in a statement.
The soldier is now in Germany for further treatment and is in a stable condition.
Defence said his family had been notified but no details would be released for security reasons.
Forty Australian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since 2002, with 257 wounded, including 11 this year.
