The soldier was shot and wounded during a joint operation with Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) 45km northwest of Tarin Kowt on Thursday.
Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel J (who cannot be named for operational security reasons) said the soldier was conscious and had spoken with his family.
‘The soldier received immediate treatment from his mates on the ground, who have been trained to handle potentially life-threatening situations,’ Lieutenant Colonel J said.
He is receiving treatment at a military hospital in Kandahar.
The soldier’s personal details will not be released.
