Australians less satisfied than Britons

A new index measuring the wellbeing of Australians has found we are not as happy as the British, suggesting economic growth alone does not fully explain people’s satisfaction levels.

The NAB index found Australia’s wellbeing score came in at 6.2 points for the first three months of this year, well below the 7.3 reading taken for a similar measure of Britons a year earlier.

Overall, Australians feel better as they get older, with the lowest levels of happiness in the 18-to-29 age group and the highest for those aged over 50.

However, anxiety levels are highest among 30 to 49 year olds.
