Brisbane siege gunman has been charged

The gunman at the centre of a siege which shut down the centre of Brisbane has been charged.

The 34-year-old is still being treated in hospital for minor injuries he suffered when police opened fire on him with “bean bag” bullets.

The siege, which caused the evacuation of thousands of people from busy Queen Street Mall yesterday, lasted for about 90 minutes.

The man has been charged with five counts of serious assault police and one count each of going armed so as to cause fear and carrying an exposed weapon in a public place.

He’s due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court next Friday.
