Paramedics were called on Friday evening to a two-year-old boy found submerged in a pool at Croydon and within half an hour another crew was called to a 16-month-old girl found submerged in a pool in Stanmore.
Both were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in stable conditions.
An Ambulance Service of NSW spokeswoman on Saturday urged parents and other adults to never leave young children unattended near water.
‘They can so quickly fall in and they submerge quickly,’ she told AAP.
Adults should also not leave children to supervise younger children around water and should never jam open backyard pool safety gates.
‘A child can so easily squirm their way through the fence and into the pool area,’ the spokeswoman said.
She said the two Sydney incidents were fortunately not tragedies.
‘It could have almost been a most wretched day for two families.’
