Tasmania on high bushfire alert

skynews 832478A total fire ban has been declared in Tasmania as the state prepares for the worst bushfire danger in more than five years.

Temperatures across the state are forecast to be in the high 30s, with Hobart tipped to reach 38C, with strong winds.

Tasmania Fire Service chief officer Mike Brown says the conditions are the worst he’s seen since the 2006/07 fire season, when bushfires burned near Hobart’s eastern shore.

Authorities are urging everyone that the safest option is to leave early and stay at a friend or relative’s place far away from bushfires.
