School children left hungry

skynews 806393Health and social experts say thousands of Australian children are suffering at school because their parents can’t afford to properly feed them.

A report released today by Anglicare Australia estimates about 45-thousand households accessing its emergency relief services don’t have enough money to adequately feed their families.

Of this group, 22-thousand go without food for a whole day … at least once a week … and almost one in ten are children.

Anglicare’s executive director Kasy Chambers says some parents were keeping their children home from school on days they couldn’t afford to put food in their lunchbox.
