Former prime minister Kevin Rudd says Australians want to hear politicians debate the economy, hospitals, education and infrastructure, rather than a gender war.
Speaking on the ABC’S Lateline, Mr Rudd said Australians are more interested to know what will happen to the economy after the mining boom ends, and the policies of the major parties.
Mr Rudd took a swipe at the gender debate that culminated last week with Prime Minister Julia Gillard branding Opposition Leader Tony Abbott a misogynist.
He says that sort of stuff frankly doesn’t add up to a row of beans, and the sooner we get past the deeply personal attacks on both sides of politics the better.
He went on to say there’s a certain terrible familiarity between whack, whack, whack and whack, and, of course, it takes to two to tango.
