Australian cyclists win gold

Australia has ridden home to a strong start at the Paralympics, winning two cycling gold medals on the opening day of the track competition.

Visually impaired Kieran Modra and pilot Scott McPhee then claimed gold in the tandem pursuit.

It was a successful day for Australia at the velodrome, with five medals added to the medal tally.

Bryce Lindores and pilot Sean Finning won silver along with Simone Kennedy.

Shooter Natalie Smith was the first Australian to win a medal at the Games with Bronze in the 10m air rifle standing.

Meanwhile swimmer Jacqueline Freney won the S7 100m backstroke.

Freney’s comfortable win raising hopes she could win a swag of medals at the pool this week.
