The country would have excellent facilities for water sports. Plenty of natural waters, rivers and lakes are located in the country and young people there are in great physical condition; however, Ghanaian people usually don’t learn how to swim and they have neither traditions nor trainers or equipment necessary for water polo. But the Hungarian Trade and Cultural Centre in Accra provides a great opportunity to strengthen these relationships. They have been asked by the Ghanaian Swimming Federation to call into being water polo in West Africa. Based on the initiation of HTCC and the African- Hungarian Union, the first pack of equipment (including caps, balls and rulebooks) will arrive at the official opening ceremony of HTCC in January 2014. Well-known Hungarian coaches will arrive in Ghana soon to start training with enthusiastic youth. For this special occasion Tibor Benedek greeted the water polo players of the future in a video message.
Ghanaian water polo with Hungarian support
Hungary has never been a strong political world power; however, we belong to the world leaders in sports, which has been gorgeously demonstrated by our Olympics results. Water polo is one of the biggest Hungarian sports so it is not surprising at all if someone wants this sport to improve somewhere in the world, our country will come up first as a partner option. The same happened in Ghana too.
