The Undersecretary, who is also the co-president of the Hungarian-Tunisian Intergovernmental Economic Joint Committee, called the attention to the fact that there are about 3200 foreign companies and only two of them are Hungarian. This is why, he explained, the opportunity to develop economic relations exists in almost all areas.
He emphasized that he can see a very good chance for Hungarian companies to participate in the development of Tunisian economy in the field of farming, energetics, transportation and also service industries. He added: after the revolution Tunisian economy has become more transparent.
Mr. Lajos Bognár, Deputy Undersecretary for Food Chain Supervision and Agricultural Administration at the Ministry of Rural Development and also Hungarian co-president of the Hungarian-Tunisian Intergovernmental Economic Joint Committee told MTI: Hungary could participate in the development of the country’s economy – among others – in technology-development, agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry and telecommunications.
He also mentioned freshwater fishing, water management and environmental protection, which are the areas where Hungary could contribute to the boost of Tunisian economy based on mutual advantages.
The agreement on the cooperation of organisations pooling Hungarian and Tunisian businessmen was signed at the press conference. The agreement, which includes the basic activities of the Tunisian-Hungarian Business Council, on the Tunisian side was signed by Mr. Zoubeir Chaieb, president and Mr. Sándor Balogh, president, on the Hungarian side.
The economic conference and businessmen meeting entitled “Africa Summit VII. – the Renaissance of Maghreb” was organized as one of the programs of the Budapest meeting of the Hungarian-Tunisian Intergovernmental Economic Joint Committee at the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
The economic forum is closely linked to the basic objectives of the foreign policy of the Hungarian government and the strengthening of the position of Hungarian enterprises in countries outside Europe.
