The truck, travelling from Port Sudan, tried to overtake another vehicle and hit the bus head-on, Abdul Rahman Hassan, chief of the country’s traffic police, said in a statement.
He said the crash occurred 190km east of Atbara city in Red Sea state.
Road accidents are common in Sudan, where authorities have banned buses and minibuses from some of the main roads at night as a safety measure.
Fifteen people were killed in November when a minibus and a truck collided south of the Sudanese capital, while 14 died last February in Nile state in a bus crash blamed on a technical fault.
